Pacific Raceway Road Racing Test & Tune #6

Is it Spring YET!?

Supposedly “Spring is less than a week away” no really…

For the hardy souls who ventured out to Pacific Raceways last weekend for the sixth “Test and Tune” of the year it seemed like the middle of Winter… Some rain, snow, winds and yes even sunny conditions tested those we made some fast laps around the legendary road course…

Roll-X 16 Hour Enduro at Pacific Raceways

Through the wind and Rain Champions are crowned in the Inaugural Roll-X 16 Hour Enduro at Pacific Raceways

With 4,000.00 dollars in total prize money on the line, that was enough incentive for more than 18 teams to converge on the Pacific Raceways Road Coarse for 16 hours of “motorized mayhem”.

The two day event featured lots of close racing along with spills, chills, wall to wall contact and even some unscheduled off road excursions. Mother nature made it even more interesting, as blowing wind, rain, sleet and snow added to the festivities.

Take a look at final points standings and in particular the “team names”. I love it… Imagine “The Flying Lumberjacks VS. Asphalt Mafia coming out of turn two side by side”.

The Hubbard Motorsports blue #41 Honda finished a mere 12 laps in front of the Flying Lumberjacks for the overall title, Finishing third was Clutch on Fire with Super Tune in fourth. Only 6 laps separated 2nd-4th place.

Hubbard Motorsports, drivers Rick, Mark, and Cullan Hubbard and Troy and Brett Fetzer, picked up a check for $2500.  The Flying Lumberjacks received a $1000 and the third place team of Clutch on Fire Racing pocketed $500.

On a rainy day in the Northwest most people are trying to stay warm and dry. This is not the case if you are one of the lady cyclists and part of Team Group Health/Sound Velo Cycling. They chose a rainy February Saturday recently to practice for the upcoming cycling season by hosting a “Beginner Race Clinic” for new team members. This clinic helped prepare the Cat-4 women’s field for a safe and rewarding 2012 race season. More than 30 rides used the Pacific Raceways Road Course practicing such things as bike handing, cornering along with riding and racing in a pack.

The team is the area’s largest women’s cycling team. They compete in road, track, cyclocross, and mountain bike racing events at the local, regional, and national levels. Their focus on women and large presence in each cycling discipline differentiates Team Group Health from other area cycling teams. With more than 70 members strong, they are a veritable force whenever the rubber meets the road, the track, or the dirt.

The woman of Team Group Health/Velo Cycling are proud of a long history of community engagement and competitive success, as well as a reputation for exceptional sportsmanship. Each season, the team remains focused on these core qualities as they strive to improve women’s racing by developing new riders and building an elite racing team. Not only will you find them competing on the road, at the track, or playing in the dirt, they also spend countless hours volunteering in our community and at cycling-related events and mentoring racers new to the sport.
