Killroy Memorial Foot Brake – Westbay #4 & Jr Dragster #8 At Bremerton Raceway

Westbay #4, Jr. Dragster #8, Kilroy Memorial Foot Break 7-6-2013 655Combining events is nothing new. Take out modern devices and go back to “old school” and see what comes. Such is the case with the John Kilroy Footbrake Race. Two hands on the wheel, “no electronics” shove the brake as hard as you can and stab the gas to go. Nothing to help you stay put on the line or count down with the tree to get you going. This will test you and your skills as they were done back in the day. Take 43 driver’s and their foot timing, together with a dial-in and see who can put it together seven times. Here is your winner and the class winner’s:  (Click here for Images in The Gallery.)

Footbrake: Zach Craig outlasted them all beating Chris Meehan in the final
Jr Storm: Ashlie Leage edged Anastazja Gossette
Jr Thunder: Ryan Lamoureux got the win on a foul by Jacob Vickers
Jr Lightning: Emily Lewis had Thomas Vickers reading her “eat my bubbles” logo

NHRA National Open At Bremerton Raceway

NHRA National Open Friday 6-28-2013 385With good weather for the weekend, Friday was for test and tune, and two days of racing events were also on the docket. The Chance to earn a NHRA “WALLY” trophy brought in many who will travel many miles just for the chance. If you win the first race you are playing on house money, but to double up brings in big bucks, not to mention the trophy/trophy’s.

In other action Dennis Boley went thru the process of earning a S/C or ET’s Super Pro liscense, by running the times required to do so. Good job Dennis, though I bet the beating the car gave you will not be soon forgotten. Head snapping to say the least.

The weekends racing began with Mike Gitting and his Division 6 crew prepairing the tracks surface. With tempatures rising and the surface getting hotter keeping the track prepped was a real challenge. Good job Mike.

Do not forget the food offered at Bremerton Raceway –  They were busy with breakfast, lunch and a drink stand that has “hot of cold” with an eagerness towards the cold in the hot weather.

Three albums with over 2000 images from all three days are now available – to view the galleries, click here.

Frank Nelson Sr. (1937-2013)

oom006It is with as sad heart to announce the passing of longtime NHRA Northwest Division Six racer Frank Nelson Sr.  I met Frank in the mid 1980’s at then SIR, and Frank helped me shape the direction of my photography. His large and powerful hand on your shoulder had a way of steering you in the right direction. I will surely miss him, but never forget how he helped me.  My condolences to his family in time of sorrow.  – Jim Doyle

Bremerton Raceway’s Grand Finale

This past weekend marked the final points races in the year long Summit E.T. Series at Bremerton Raceway. For the racers that were still involved in the points chase with a shot at the titles in High School, Sportsman, Pro, Super Pro and Motorcycle it proved to be an exciting finish that came down to the wire in all the classes. For the Summit Series it was a “double header” meaning that points could be earned both Saturday and Sunday.

Along with all the fore mentioned bracket classes the weekend included the “Annual Full Throttle Shootout” presented again this year by Kitsap Brake and Muffler on Saturday. On Sunday it was the final event for the Northwest Heads Up Racing Association and a Quick 16 Shootout as well.

An action packed weekend saw the following winners on Saturday:

Class Driver
High School
Justin Vest
Super Pro Aaron Spitzer
Pro Kenny O’Keefe
Sportsman Jerry Gossette
Motorcycle Stacy Hesch

Winning the “Kitsap Brake and Muffler “Full Throttle Shootout” was not an easy task. This event was contested using the .5 tenths Pro Tree, and for most it was their first chance at using this style of starting line setup; as most of the bracket classes use the .5 Tenths Full Tree during the Summit E.T. Series events. Overall, it was very competitive and entertaining to watch. The Full Throttle Shootout is a unique format and it allows everyone in all the classes to take a shot at winning a $ 500.00 Bonus! After the dust settled, so to speak Gary Gandee Jr. took home the money.

Over 600 Images from all the action on Saturday are available – to view them click here.

On Sunday a special presentation was made to former “Bremerton Handlers” President and current Chief Tech Inspector: Gary Gandee Sr. Gary and his wife Pattee will be leaving the Handlers and the Northwest for a long awaited move to Tennessee. To be amongst his family and enjoy retirement. Gary’s son Gary Gandee Jr. will remain in Washington and continue to be a integral part of the Bremerton Handlers Racing Association. A farewell presentation was part of the pre-race ceremonies with the presentation of a special jacket and cake.

Sunday was another action packed day as the points battles became even tighter after the conclusion of Saturdays action. Winners included:

Category Driver/Rider
Motorcycle Jim Werre
Sportsman Gary Gandee Jr.
Pro Brad Burton
Super Pro Kevin Rennick

Winners in the final event of the year for the Northwest Heads up Racing Association included:

Category Driver/Rider
9.60/8.60 Combo Rhett Bertolotti
Heavy Street Walter Grosse
Outlaw Street Eric Peterson
Hot Street John Carper
Modified Street Al Mangold
Real Street Rick Conley Sr.

The Quick 16 Shootout was contested on the 1/8th Mile. And was won by “bracket ace” Al Chinn.

Images for Sunday are available now – Go to the album by clicking here.

After all was said and done, it came down to the final event before Series Champions could be determined in most of the classes. The points chases this year were some of the closest in recent memory at Bremerton Raceway. Here are your Bremerton Raceway Summit E.T. Series Champions:

Category Driver/Rider
