ProFormance Racing School At Pacific Raceways

ProFormance Racing School 3-26-15 00427 Mar 2015 Kent, WA – Spread out over two 12 hour days, once you complete these sessions they will put you out the door with the SCCA paperwork that allows you to participate anywhere in the US at an SCCA event.

It’s a complete start-to-finish program put together by Don Kitch and his extremely skilled instructors that will take you from classroom to racing in less than 24 hours. Photographing the driver’s over the two days showed the progression of the eight students in the class.  But the real progression is “heard”.

The cars in the ProFormance stable are so evenly matched that blindfolded you could not tell what number it is. This fact is a prime factor to the instructors as the sounds you hear are directly connected to what the cars are doing. Smart instructors! Really, if you have any thoughts or dreams of racing on a road course then you have to go through this program.

Go to Pacific’s website and click on the ProFormance tab to see upcoming dates or for contact information.

High Performance Sport Driving Day – Final Day of Winter Series

High Performance Sport Driving Day 3-21-15 35721 Mar 2015 Kent, WA – A couple of days into spring brings the winter series of sport driving days on Pacific Raceways legendary 2.25 mile road course to an end.

Better than 60 cars came out and test against mother- nature and her relentless rain. Throwing rain water at most all speeds, windshield wipers were working overtime trying to keep up with the downpour. Like most areas just wait awhile and the weather will change, and it did. The sun came bursting out from the clouds and the track surface dried to the point that a “Slick” tired car was able to put down some decent laps.

Over 550 Images are now available – click here to go to the album.

Check on Pacific’s web site for the summer dates.

High Performance Sport Driving Day – March 18th, 2015

High Performance Sport Driving Day 3-18-15 02918 Mar 2015 Kent, WA – The Mid-week ProFormance school got underway with no rain in sight. No better way to go thru the school and then apply to a “dry” surface what the instructors are putting to you. The twists and turn around the 2.25 mile track has a “line” to follow to make the fastest times, though not actually painted on the track this line is a must to learn if you wish to gain faster lap times, go astray an you can find your wheels “off” the track surface, hence the need for the schooling.

Check Pacific’s web site for info on the next driving day and come out for a lap in your ride.

High Performance Sport Driving Day At Pacific Raceways

High Performance Sport Driving Day 3-8-15 12808 Mar 2015 Kent, WA – Spring Forward, a clock function that happens each year in all but two of the states, but it is just a clock function as the weather here in the northwest has been very spring like for the last month and yet still a couple weeks away for the official start.

This spring forward must have jump started a lot of people as a record number of cars showed up for today’s driving day – I have to say the weather played a big part. Although there are “pure” race cars who take advantage of these days the primary purpose is for those everyday driver’s and their cars going thru the ProFormance School learning the way around the 2.25 mile track.

Due to the great weather conditions today there are over 800 images from several vantage points on the track.  We encourage everyone to look through the images for your favorite ride – Click here to go to the album and make purchases.

The teachings the instructors lay out for the student’s not only show you the way around in a “lead/follow” manner but also how to control that right foot as everyone likes to go fast, but you have to do it safely.

If you want to test that ride of yours come on out the 21st of March for the next High Performance Sport Driving Day. See you then.

High Performance Sport Driving Day At Pacific Raceways

High Performance Sport Driving Day 2-21-15 72422 Feb 2015 Kent, WA – Driving into the paddock area this morning it was apparent that this day was going to be about fast cars. With a host of cars from Ferrari of Seattle’s trailer of red racers. Throw in a mix from Nissan, BMW, Audi, Ford, Dodge and Chevrolet with a Viper and a bunch of Porsche’s.

Planned for the weather or not it does bring out the dry track racers though not in any form a race day but very good for testing for the upcoming events you plan to enter. With extra instructors on hand to handle the amount of students that have come out to test the 2.25 mile track surface with their Mustangs, Camaros, Chargers and exotics.

Running in what seemed to be their own race a handful of 125cc shifter karts rounded out a full day of lapping the track. At times with the high priced iron on the track it could have fit going around the Daytona track for 24 hours.

You never know who or what may show up for a HPSDD but you can bet the better the weather the better the entries. Check Pacific’s web site for the next date and come on out. A special thanks to Curt for the Daytona picture.

With the great weather conditions photographer Jim Doyle took over 750 images for you to enjoy and make purchases – click here to go to the album.

High Performance Sport Driving Day – Feb 8th, 2015

High Perfomance Sport Driving Day 2-8-15 52708 Feb 2015 Kent, WA – With the weatherman saying no rain the drivers came out for laps around the 2.25 mile track at Pacific Raceways. Learning to drive in the rain here is important but the horsepower that is produced by today’s cars needs dry pavement to put it to use.

A combination of lapping cars and the sun dried the track on the correct line around the track – and it brought the speeds up as traction to apply that horsepower came around.  However rain tires were a must as the sun did not reach some spots around the circuit. It’s still winter but anytime spring like weather presents itself in the northwest people get out and do things to take advantage.

You have to feel for those folks on the east coast and all the snow they are getting keeping all but the hardiest indoors. Who knows what the weather will be like on the 21st of Feb. for the next HPSDD will be but I don’t think snow tires will be needed, see you then.

Rental Pro-Am & Pro League Race

Rental Pro-Am and Pro League Race 1-31-15 38631 Jan 2015 Kent, WA – Create the competition and they will come. Such is the case for the rental series at PGP. These two classes though each to their own have riders that put down lap times pretty close to each other.

Still they are different classes and the time in that class is all about your driving ability as each is a stepping stone to a higher class of racing.

This day of racing had a thick fog to contend with as it restricted your sight in both distance and out your visor. Anytime one of your hands could be free of the wheel it was wiping the droplets away. Just another experience to put under your helmet as league racing goes on in any weather conditions.

Images are now available – click here to go to the album.

The drivers who came out of the fog to gain a spot on the podium are as follows:

Pro-Am
1st – Garrett Foss
2nd – Aaron Penn
3rd – Christian Pedersen

Pro
1st – Simon Briant
2nd – Cem Aykan

High Performance Sport Driving Day At Pacific Raceways

High Performance Sport Driving Day 1-24-15 11824 Jan 2015 Kent, WA – On the weekend of the 24 hours at Daytona the amount of new faces taking part in the HPSDD at Pacific’s own road course shows the interest in this form of driving. Future dreams maybe?

You have to start somewhere and the driver’s school located on the grounds is a great way to begin. With Don down at that 24hr event this weekend, his cadre of instructors at the school took four groups of students through the class work and driving instructing without a hitch, a definite tribute to Kitch’s leadership.

The student’s cars can range from a Jeep to a brand new Ferrari. That is a wide range so whatever you drive can fit in to take advantage of driving in the Northwest weather in an instructed and controlled manner.

The street is not the place to put the power that a new car has these days you have to know how to control it and how far it can be pushed to be a safer driver on the streets. Check Pacific’s web site for the next chance to take advantage of this valued learning.

PRO-AM Race At Pacific Raceways

PRO-AM Series 1-17-15 53317 Jan 2015 Kent, WA – Over 25 entrants came for the PRO-AM race at PGP this day. Eager to start off the new year with a win in the series and with all so equally matched it comes down to your driving skills.

Over 300 images are now available – click here to go to the album.

To that end when everyone is so closely matched and for the most part driving in a pack throughout the race at times leaves no room for running out of your line. All the karts have bumper protection all around mostly for the protection of those who come out for the thrill of running around the track but not for nurffing your competitor.

A solid red flag brought one of the early heats to a halt for that very reason. This is not a demolition derby nor are you an officer practicing pit maneuver or even a lineman blocking for a running back. Being aggressive as a driver is a good thing but not at the expense of your competition.

It takes no skill to push another rider out of your way to gain another spot and it’s not sportsmanship in any way. After a stern red flag talking to by PGP an official on what it means to race fair things calmed down to some very good racing. The top three placers in the two classes are:

PRO
Maurice Shawver- 1st
Chris Beasley- 2nd
Cem Aykan- 3rd

PRO-AM
Aaron Penn- 1st
A.J. Johnston- 2nd

Amateur Kart Race At PGP – Jan 11th, 2015

Amateur Kart Race 1-11-15 41411 Jan 2015 Kent, WA – With a multitude of classes offered by PGP, the amateur class got their chance to race this weekend. What a great way to start into a motorsports racing. Zipping along at 30 mph with your butt one inch off the ground is a blast no matter what your age is.

All drivers must weigh in at 190lbs. That means that if you weigh 150 you must add 40lbs of weight to the kart, this puts everyone on an even playing field. Jump on the scales with all your gear, no hedging here as you are checked after each race as you also change karts. This also prevents this is my favorite kart because of its number.

Rain or shine now your skills as a driver come to the front as it should be in a racing format. This day’s race though had a lighter than normal, no doubt many still sleeping in after the big win last night by the Seahawks. Got to give them that and looking for a bigger group next race.

Also going on this day PGP’s lead instructor schooling a pair of young driver’s on the sport of karting and by the looks on their faces as they run the circuit says everything. There is no mistaking an ear to ear grin even with a helmet on. White board diagramming showing how to enter a curve on the track or properly what line to follow for the fastest way around the track. As many people know many race driver’s got their start karting and progressed from there. Give PGP a call to see when you may take part in these classes.

Amateur Race podium placer’s are as follows: Aaron Penn grabbed the top spot with Ben Gonzales getting second and a very surprised and happy Todd Jensen placing third.
