ProFormance Racing School Sessions – June 1st, 2016

AM Skills-1-Day Novice HP-PM Lapping 6-1-16 (7)01 June 2016 Kent, WA – The ProFormance class size from date to date can vary. The adjustment that ProFormance Racing School makes is simple, splitting the group or running them thru the four tasks as a whole. Today’s group fell into the later.

AM Skills-1-Day Novice HP-PM Lapping 6-1-16 (63)Going thru the tasks one at a time to me keeps your focus on that task. Keeping your focus when driving is the important factor in being a safe driver. Distracted, for whatever the reason in most cases do not end well and in today’s world of smart phones the distraction is great. This point is made very clear by the instructors as they explain the point of the current task.

We have driven for decades without them and did just fine. Common sense is all it is, use it when behind the wheel. Going thru the school these things are pointed out in a number of ways both in the classroom and on the track.

Many a good driver has gone thru the school only to realize that they learned a lot and their driving habits were not so good. When a pure race car driver feels that he can learn more of his craft by going thru the school it tells you something.

Go to the ProFormance web site and find a date that works for you and become a better driver.

6th Annual Dee Adams Fire & Thunder at Renegade Raceway

6th Annual Dee Adams Fire and Thunder 5-28-16 (151)29 May 2016 Yakima, WA – The trip to Renegade Raceway is one that I looked forward to when the dates were announced.  I had not been there since the mid ‘80s and was wondering what it was like now. Sure you can go to the web and see from above the layout of the track as you can for most all tracks, but going back and feeling the atmosphere can’t be beat.

6th Annual Dee Adams Fire and Thunder 5-29-16 (127)Covering the Pacific Northwest Super Comp Association (PNSCA) at the different tracks brings you into the happenings and festivities for that weekend. This has Funny Cars and Jets along with some fine nostalgia machines.

6th Annual Dee Adams Fire and Thunder 5-28-16 (242)This yearly event at Renegade honors the roots of the dragstrip and the people that brought it about. Running a lot of the weekend under the lights brings out the flames that really show at night and when the Jets run you can’t beat it.

6th Annual Dee Adams Fire and Thunder 5-28-16 (213)Looking for a date that I might return to take in more of the hospitality that Derek and Sara showed me and the drag crew that allowed me to take care of the tasks at hand.

The PNSCA winners are Ty Anderson in the Saturday race and Trevor Harkema claimed the Sunday race.

The next PNSCA race is June 11th, 2016 at Pacific Raceways, see you then.

AM Skills, Novice HP & PM Lapping at ProFormance Racing School

AM Skills- Novice HP - PM Lapping 5-26-1 (6)26 May 2016 Kent, WA – The fact of a full classroom shows how many people realize the importance of what ProFormance Racing School can give them.

The expert staff take you thru four different exercises that once taught at the slower speeds translates into higher speed reactions to hazards. Learning to see further ahead seams easy, you have done that all your life, understanding the why is what you learn. Then putting into practice on the track what you have learned is a joy to watch as even
the timid have no issues.

Want to increase you own driving skills check the “new” ProFormance web site for the next date.

PDRC #3 & Diesel Drags #3 at Pacific Raceways

PRDC #3 and Diesel #3 5-25-16 (238)25 May 2016 Kent, WA – You never know who is going to show up for the mid-week drags. PRDC is growing as more riders are joining in on the fun. The Diesel drags, brand new are starting to draw those big rigs to the track.

Then you have the test and tune part of the evening and it’s always fun to wonder who is going to show up for testing. Out putting a new funny car thru its shakedown passes was Randy Parker putting three passes on the new machine, quite impressive.

PRDC #3 and Diesel #3 5-25-16 (212)Northwest legend Al Young had his son Chase drag racing the GTX for the first time, always nice to see Al.  Also from the northwest TV family the Hillstrand bunch from Deadliest Catch were out having fun on a Wednesday night. As I mentioned you never know who is going to show for some mid-week fun.

The winners in tonight’s classes are: Mark Sires in PRDC and Kevin Jellum in the Diesel Drags.

Images of all the action, including a beautiful new Funny Car, are now available – click here to go to the album.

Toyota/Scion/Lexus Event at Pacific Raceways

TSL Day 5-22-16 (18)22 May 2016 Kent, WA – A new event has been added to the 2016 goings on at Pacific Raceways. The TSL has new legs and is just getting off the ground. It displays a combination of cars on the paddock with a lead/follow on the road course with ProFormance Racing School owner Don Kitch leading the way and ending with the drags on the strip.

TSL Day 5-22-16 (3)

NWMotiv was on the grounds recording the event and promoting the new event.  It is patterned after other events that use Pacific Raceways entire grounds – and this idea will take off in the future. The social media aspect that is ingrained into the generation that is popularizing the Toyota line of autos will spread like wildfire and like the other’s will bring many people who feel the same about them.

TSL Day 5-22-16 (21)

I can see next year’s event learning from the first to bring bigger and better into the future, plan for it.

Jr Dragsters #4 & Car Club #1 at Pacific Raceways

Jr. #4 and Car Club #1 5-20-16 (151)20 May 2016 Kent, WA – Here is the next generation and those that just like racing. Watching the Jr’s and their pretty much identical dragsters per the rules then Car Club brings those that pass tech to the line.

It could be a ’48 Ford and a 2016 Vette lining up to face each other. The common theme, “having fun” even if you lose the race you still have a smile and a congrats to the winner. Throw in a Pro Mod and a couple of 10.5 cars doing some testing and it was quite a show for those that sit in the stands.

Jr. #4 and Car Club #1 5-20-16 (3)The events winners are:

Jr. Storm: Jaslyn Bean
Jr. Thunder: Luke Cavar
Jr. Lightning: Josh Schmanke
Car Club: Wayne Douglas

2-Day SCCA Conference – SOVREN Race Licensing at Pacific Raceways

2-Day SCCA-Conference-SOVREN Race Licensing 5-19-16 (161)19 May 2016 Kent, WA – Watch, listen and learn the basics of life and how we grow. Applying those aspects to the ProFormance Racing School and the 2-day class will put you out the door with paperwork that say’s that you may enter as a novice into club racing.

The part of the class that is more to your benefit is what you take to the streets in your daily driving. Yes, you do learn the proper way to enter a turn or when and where to break on a race track, but, on a percentage basis you will use this gained knowledge in your daily commutes more often than you may think.

2-Day SCCA-Conference-SOVREN Race Licensing 5-19-16 (114)

That feeling you get and understanding what your rear end is telling you when you are doing this or that is explained expertly by the instructor sitting next to you. This has to be the best bang for your buck that you can do for yourself.

Go to the “NEW” ProFormance web site for the next class date.

Motorcycle #2 & Diesels #2 at Pacific Raceways

MC #2 - Diesel #2 5-18-16 (26)18 May 2016 Kent, WA – Under the threat of rain the mid-week bike and diesel drags got underway at Pacific Raceways. What did push on the night was the wind coming right down the track into your face.

MC #2 - Diesel #2 5-18-16 (38)

The wind didn’t have much to do with the diesel rigs but the bike riders could sure feel it. Both groups had an increase in numbers to show the Wednesday race is growing and as is said the more the merrier.

Also growing is the test and tune portion of the evening as those new car buys just need to be tested, and this is a great place to do so and much better than the streets.

MC #2 - Diesel #2 5-18-16 (12)

The rain never came down putting a hamper on the races which put Chris Benda in Motorcycle and Vince Storms for Diesel in the winner’s circle. Go to the Pacific Raceways web site for the next mid-week race date.

Images from the event are now available – click here to go to the photo album.

2016 IRDC at Pacific Raceways

IRDC Sunday 5-15-16 42515 May 2016 Kent, WA – Oh how the weather can change, last weekend was sunny and warm with record temps and this weekend it was back to the” northwet”.  Such is spring in the northwest and really what makes this area such a beauty. Like planning for your vacation months in advance you never know what the weather will give you.

This weekend IRDC and their volunteers gathered at Pacific Raceways for a weekend of racing on the legendary 2.25 mile track. There were nearly 150 entries in the six main groups with a “Novice” race along with the NWMECS race.

IRDC Saturday 5-14-16 301Those grey skies covered all on Saturday and did not change, so it was a dry track and race tires on.

But it was a whole new game for Sunday as the drizzle would not stop and the “rain” tires graced the race cars.

IRDC Sunday 5-15-16 201

This is true road racing; you deal with what “mother nature” gives you and be pre-paired for it. There is an art to racing in the rain and it’s on display with IRDC says general manager John Ramsey.

IRDC Sunday 5-15-16 269

Great race cars and great drivers put on some very close side by side racing in all of the groups. IRDC is back in July for more great racing though the odds give “sunny” weather though you never know.

2016 IRDC Test-N-Tune at Pacific Raceways

IRDC Test and Tune 5-13-16 01013 May 2016 Kent, WA – Packing onto the Pacific Raceways grounds are many different types of race cars for a weekend of racing IRDC style.  It is always fun to watch the small bore group as the pack their way around the track nose to tail.

IRDC Test and Tune 5-13-16 332

Then there are the sounds that the big bore group put out can get your insides vibrating. Plan on coming out this weekend and watch some great side by side racing.
