Final 2016 Wednesday Nite PDRC & Diesel Drags at Pacific Raceways

PRDC and Diesel Drags 8-23-16 (45)23 August 2016 Kent, WA – The final Wed. night racing of the season brought the largest entry into the Diesel portion of the night and a couple of new faces in the bike class.

It was total shirt sleeve weather on an August night but not so hot to seek the shade. As the mid-week race grows the competition grows with it for some great racing and watching from the stands.

PRDC and Diesel Drags 8-23-16 (198)Only two classes but a whole bunch running in the test and tune portion of the night. The winner in Diesel saw Aaron Parsley out last the field and Mark Sires got the win over Brian Howe.

Big Division Six Weekend at Pacific Raceways

DSC_337922 August 2016 Kent, WA – Continuing on from the hot weather the Pacific date for the NW Division 6 qualifying began.  Along with the division race the sportsman finals from the NW National rain out was on the docket and a whole different set of conditions to deal with.

DSC_3122As for the reminders about staying cool and hydrated, it was everywhere. Bottles of water were in hand and a cool towel around the neck. Also seen where more “bumpershoots” than on a rainy day in the northwest. Having endured the heat on Friday and Saturday, Sunday the marine cloud layer brought out the coats and sweatshirts much to the joy of all.

DSC_3306Now all the data gained in the heat is out the window with as much as a twenty degree drop from the previous days. In the heat Saturday though the sportsman finals were run and Chuck Glanz took the Top Dragster class and local racer Brian Phillips home the Top Sportsman “Wally” in Super Stock, second generation racer Cody Lane added to his trophy case, also up from Tigard, Or. Steve Laskowske grabbed the Super Gas win and from further away Jerry Denton from Tempe, Az. will long haul the “Wally” from Super Street and what had to be the best winner after over four decades of racing Tory Lea got his first “Wally” running in Super Comp.

DSC_2591Congrats to the National event winners now on to Sunday. As mentioned it felt good to have a jacket on and no umbrellas in sight. There was great side by side racing as the best of the division went rounds as the temp rose to a very comfortable shirt sleeve day. For those in the stands it could not be better soaking the sun and racing.

DSC_2497In what had to be the highlight even before the finals for the division race began is local history. I know it did not happen on the same day as normal finals at a NHRA event nor did it happen on the same date but under the heading “Protect The Harvest NW Nationals” class winners list will be father and son Jeff and Cody Lane from nearby North Bend.  None the less it is rare indeed for a father and son to win at the same national event; great job you two and your crews.

Link for images of the event, organized into FOUR albums – over 2,000 images! – click here.

Also ahead of the list Jeff can claim winning a National and Divisional “Wally” on the same day. On to the winners with a great big “Thank You” to Pam Gorman for keeping my info straight:

NHRA Division Six Spokane Rain-Out Completed at Pacific Raceways

DSC_105518 August 2016 Kent, WA – It’s not normal in Eastern Washington – the dry part of the state gets rain, but it can happen. Thus the rain-out phase went into action for the NHRA Division Six event held earlier this season in Spokane. The racers and powers that be agreed that completing the event at Pacific Raceways would fit so here we are.

DSC_0858The weather was every bit like the east side of the Cascade Crest in the summer time, with temps well into the 90’s – that is not the norm for the west side for those that reside here so hydration and shade became the point put out over the PA and track personnel.

DSC_1007For those that go to Spokane in the summer time it had to feel like home and how to deal with the heat. As those that race in these conditions know the settings for a baseline then put it to work on the record setting and quite normal prepped track by Pacific’s drag crew. Those that had it laid down some dead on their dial and cutting down the tree with triple zeros.

Lots of great images of these amazing machines in the heat – click here to go to the photo album.

WINNERS

Super Stock: Darcy Clarke

Super Comp: Mike Shannon

Also in the mix was the WCSA and their high powered hotrods racing to the 1/8 mile. As a spectator you can’t beat the wide range of cars in a number of heads-up racing. The winners list is long.

Jr Dragster #11 & Car Club #6 at Pacific Raceways

Jr.#11 8-12-16 (212)12 Aug 2016 Kent, WA – It was the second to the last race for the Jr. Dragsters, and they filled the lanes with cars in what had to be the largest entry list of the season. Many are still in contention for a trip to the E.T. Finals and others are already getting set up for next season.

On the other side the Car Club keeps on growing with more racers joining in for a night of racing. Then there are those that are here for a test and tune for the Super Saturday event the next day. Here also was the WCSA with the four classes qualifying for their Saturday race.

Back to the Jr’s, after gaining his license McKailen Haddock, son of funny car driver Terry Haddock got his first taste of racing like his dad. Watching his licensing the day before you could hear the seriousness in dad’s tone at the same time the proud eyes of a father watching his son. Though losing in the first round he did everything right the way he was taught and will only get better with seat time.

The Jr. Winners are in Jr. Storm Raylee Higgins, in Jr. Lightning Ryan Lamoureux and in Jr. Thunder Ian Theofells. In the Car Club it was a father and son match as the Douglas’s Wayne and track champ Nick faced off seeing dad Wayne getting the light.

ProFormance Racing School – Summer School In Session!

AM Only Skills-Novice HP-PMlapping 8-11-16 (20)11 Aug 2016 Kent, WA – Driving in the summertime seems easy enough; dry roads and nice weather just go together. Knowing how to drive the roads is one thing but the knowledge you gain from four simple exercises that the ProFormance Racing School instructors put you thru will change the way you drive.

AM Only Skills-Novice HP-PMlapping 8-11-16 (22)In the classroom you will see on a white board the diagrams of what the exercises are and what you will be asked to do on the track layouts. Once out on the track and behind the wheel it is here that the instructors with their eyes and ears catch everything you are doing and will de-brief you after each attempt, coaching you to a better driver.

The confidence you leave with after the schooling is over as you leave the property your hands will tell you right away what you have learned.

Go to the ProFormance Racing School web site for info for your school date.

This week we got a lot of great images of the sessions on Pacific Raceways road course.  Click here to go to the photo album.

Swift Tools ET Series #11 at Pacific Raceways

Swift Tool #11 7-30-16 (546)30 July 2016 Kent, WA – As the season draws closer to its end the scramble to maintain your position in the standings is on the serious side now for the Swift Tools ET Series at Pacific Raceways.

Swift Tool #11 7-30-16 (584)Those lurking just behind you should you stumble are right there though I don’t see any stumble from the high school leader. Lane Cavar is a natural when it comes to racing and has shown it by winning in multiple classes though his huge lead has lessened the past two races, put on the trailer by each of the Hagen twins. Lane you could say is somewhat of a leader in the younger generation showing the talents that they have and the older racers know that they have to be on their game. He could be the first one to have two spots on the “wall of winners” at the track.

Images of all the winners and action on the track are now available – click here to go to the photo album.

The list of winners for this combination of classes on another “Super Saturday” are:

Super Pro: Fred Hoffman
Pro: Brian Thompson
Sportsman: Larry DeCamp
Motorcycle: Joe Lind
Jr. Storm: Jaslyn Bean
Jr. Thunder: Luke Cavar
Jr. Lightning: Korban Lewis
Jr. Street: John Hawes

Goodguys NW Nationals Nostalgia Drag Racing at Pacific Raceways

GoodGuys 7-29-16 (531)29 July 2016 Kent, WA – A terrific blast from the past is the best way to describe what GoodGuys is all about. A three-day car show at the fairgrounds and Friday night drags at the track bring thousands of folks out to see and watch.

GoodGuys 7-29-16 (340)In their hey-day these race cars were the top of the show and today it is still the same. Nostalgia is big no matter what you are describing and when it comes to racing, and it’s even bigger when you look at the stands you could see it – the stands were filled the seats on Friday night.

GoodGuys 7-29-16 (294)Add in to the mix some altered and dragsters from the day and eleven funny cars brought together with help from Bill Dooner who was the instrument for the big shows when Pacific Raceways was Seattle International Raceway. Those events drew tens of thousands to the track back in the day.

GoodGuys 7-29-16 (231)Looking forward to next season and the GoodGuys race I can see a bigger and better show for all those that love the old days of racing and the cars that ruled the strip.

Lots of great images tonight, the light was just about perfect – check out the images in the photo album – click here.

Novice High Performance to Twilight Lapping at Pacific Raceways

Novice HP-PM Lapping-Twilight Lapping 7-27-16 (5)27 July 2016 Kent, WA – The action at Pacific Raceways today was those taking the next step in the process towards a license to take part in racing on the tracks in the U.S. If you would like to participate in SCCA, IRDC along with other’s you need to go thru a school to learn what it takes to do so. ProFormance Racing School is one of the best that offer this type of schooling in the northwest.

Novice HP-PM Lapping-Twilight Lapping 7-27-16 (134)After going thru the Novice Only class the students that have the thoughts of or just a bucket list jump into the more intense teaching in the classroom then put it into practice on the track. With an instructor by your side talking and teaching via a radio connection guide you around the track refining what you are doing, right or wrong.

By the end of the day the students are running some pretty good times showing that they have learned and put to practice what the instructors refined. The other end of the school is that once completed you will be a better driver on the hi-ways and bi-ways as you travel thru life.

If interested contact ProFormance Racing School for info.
