High Performance Sport Driving Day at Pacific Raceways

hpsdd-11-19-16-19519 Nov 2016 Kent, WA – The High Performance Sport Driving Days have begun on the legendary 2.25 mile Pacific Raceway road course. Open to all who would like to run their ride around the track like those today.

hpsdd-11-19-16-20Only one car that could be called somewhat a race car was on hand; all others were daily drivers.  On that note today’s production cars have some pretty good get up and go under the hood.

hpsdd-11-19-16-42A light sprinkle was just enough to irritate your wipers but lasted only a short time then gave way to some great driving weather for the afternoon. The great thing about the program is the weather, the driving conditions will change and the experience you gain driving can be your own depending on what you are looking for.

The safety factor is pressed hard at the driver’s meeting with corner worker’s keeping an eye on what you are doing. Drop your wheels off the track and you will be black flagged to come in and talk about what happened and why. Driving beyond your abilities shows up on the actions of your car and they will stop you and correct it, remember “safety first”.

These are the dates for the HPSDD this winter:

December 3rd and 17th
January 7th and 21st
February 4th and 18th
March 4th

Full Day of Classes at ProFormance Racing School

am-skills-11-6-16-23506 Nov 2016 Kent, WA – The aspirations people have when they get behind the wheel of an automobile are very wide. No matter your age or gender you dream you could someday race or just drive your new expensive the way it was designed to be driven.

am-skills-11-6-16-43What all have in common is how much better you will be after going thru the ProFormance Racing School and its program. What you take away after the school is your own, but all will perform in a more aware and safety in the back of their mind. The instructors will guide you and coach you on what to do when a situation should arise. Evasive action, dropping a tire both can happen either on the road or race course.

Knowing what to do and when to do it will become clearer as you head for the orange cones laid out for each of the exercises you will go thru. When bang for your buck is on your plate going thru the school is a great investment.

Test-N-Tune & Gambler Event at Pacific Raceways

dsc_991322 Oct 2016 Kent, WA – The month of October has been on a pace to eclipse the wettest on record. Thus, the first two of three dates for the month were washed out, I mean washed out. This day though mother nature shined as if to say “not three in a row”.

dsc_9724This the last drag race date for the 2016 season brought a wide range of cars to the track. For most it was a new experience racing only an eighth mile. This length came about over pure safety for the racers as the relentless rains left water seeping thru the cracks. This length was right at home for the “drag radial class” car out for some testing and worked out perfect for the Parker family out for testing on the “funny car”.

dsc_9637As the “gambler” race got underway, after a number of runs to the eighth for a way different “dial-in” than normal really did make for some great side by side racing.

dsc_9933Ending the day with the last money run right at the deadline finishing out the 2016 season and padding the pockets of Robert Cody and John Schwaller for their class wins.

Images are now available, the fall light made for great images.  Click here to go to the photo album.  Thank you so much for your support and purchases!

3rd Annual Trick or Treat Shootout at Renegade Raceway

DSC_951709 Oct 2016 Yakima, WA – Drag racing at its core is every bit a family affair. Toss in Halloween and it shows even more. The gathering of families for the Trick or Treat Shootout combined with the Super Quick and Jr. Championship Series had them at Renegade Raceway in Yakima, WA for a weekend of racing and champions crowned.  Racers from all over the northwest and Canada were running for the trophies and better yet the coveted “Wally”.

DSC_9293Racing into the darkness Saturday enhanced the excitement for many a Jr dragster driver, building to what in the end was that “Wally”.

Dylanie Petersohn just nine years old came in a borrowed car after hers expired at her last race in her first season of racing captured that gold hardware. A feat as most all would say is not easy to do and shows the talent and composure the drivers have at her age while competing in Jr. Thunder.

DSC_9289In the Jr. Lightning class Nathan Watts threw down reaction times that all started with a zero and put a .001 on the board on a single in round two on his way to the “Wally”.
Picking up the “Wally” in the Malarkey Roofing Products sponsored Superquick Series Andy Schlenker outlasted the field in his Mullis dragster.

DSC_8940On to Sunday and the quest begins again for the hardware though unlike yesterday today the weather became a major player. After two rounds in the books the powers that be had to pull the plug as “Mother Nature” became the winner this day. This forced Division Director Matt to go to his laptop and put a “championship” stamp to the series.

DSC_9250In the end Don Sefton in “Super Quick”, Tiffany Howe in Jr. Lightning and Cooper Chun in Jr. Thunder were crowned “Champions” for the season series. To all that came for the weekend look forward to next season and this event at Renegade Raceway.

An Event folder has been created with two albums worth of images available, one for Saturday, and the other for the Sunday action.  Click here to go to the photo albums.

Another Full Day at ProFormance Racing School

DSC_847930 Sept 2016 Kent, WA – With the “BOSS” gone with “The Heart of Racing” team the ProFormance Racing School staff of instructors carries on the program without skipping a beat. A true tribute to what Don Kitch has built into the ProFormance Racing School program.

DSC_8474

The shift in who taught the skills parts of the school is so interchangeable, ten students got great spot on instructions to guide them thru the exercises. The best thing you can do to improve your driving skills and as some say it should be included in drivers training.

Speaking of drivers training for those young drivers check out the “BRAKES” program coming to Pacific soon. Go to Pacific’s web site for info on either program.

Lots of great images from the classes today – click here to go to the photo album.

NHRA Division Six Season Finale at Woodburn

DSC_632019 Sep 2016 Woodburn, OR – The final division race of the season no matter the location will bring those that need to protect their position in the standings, those that know with a good showing can move up in the standings and those that just love to race no matter where they are in the standings.

DSC_6158This was truly the mix for the final NHRA Northwest Division Six race held at Woodburn Dragstrip.

DSC_5113Thursday and Friday the weather could not have been better, sunny but not really hot temps. All of a sudden the smart phones started buzzing about “mother nature” and the radar picture. Just when the racing  was about to get serious the rains came and washed away Saturday.

DSC_6592With figuring done, it was planned the race could finish on Sunday in the time allotted meaning no issues. Come Sunday morning the no issues went away thanks to Mother Nature and her relentless overnight rain. So much rain fell that it lifted the rubber from the track surface forcing the track and D-6 crew to scrape and re-prep the track. Thanks “Mother Nature”.

DSC_5714Darkness was the deciding factor now and they ran all that could be run till dark, and then it was on to Monday.

On to Monday morning and again the weather played a part as a heavy dew covered everything not protected from it along with pretty dense fog obstructing your view.  The crew got the rest of the event done in just a few hours even with later start, those few hours that were taken away by the weather showed that the hard work and dedication by the Woodburn and D-6 crews can race ready a track surface no matter the issue.

A big thanks to Jay and Joey for their help and answers, it was always a good time at their track. For a list of the winner’s visit the D-6 web site.

Over 1,200 images are now available, many from some new vantage points.  Click here to go to the event album – there are a total of five albums, organized by day to make it easier.  CLICK HERE.

AM Skills, Novice HP, PM Lapping at ProFormance Racing School

DSC_406108 September 2016 Kent, WA – As mentioned in earlier posts the reason for going thru the ProFormance Racing School are many. The reason is really not the matter; it’s the fact that you are finally doing it. Spread apart by more than fifty years of production a pair of Mustangs were in the class today.

DSC_4065Both sounded like mean machines as they warmed up their motors getting ready to start the track portion of the school. The difference in the two started to show in the “braking”, non-ABS vs. ABS. The general thought is to bring a whole bunch of horsepower under the hood to go fast around the track, when in reality you need very good brakes more than anything else.

DSC_4197Most all cars can get up to a pretty good clip but slowing them down to get around the twists and turns of the track is way more important. Though the ’65 Mustang looks like it just came off the production line the fact that no ABS on the car did it in using up the brakes till the failing point. Bummer.

Meanwhile the GM’s Mustang just keeps getting faster and faster lap times as he learns the “line” around the track. A lot of hot rod heads are upgrading the “old” iron to modern day horsepower can level the playing field by adding an ABS system to their ride and stay side by side around the track with the current high horsepower produced in today’s autos.

Lots of images today – click here to go to the photo album.
